Last chance water flood
Check out the corner shot on her net pay map
What are the end-of-life strategies for floods? With low pressure and high recovery, can anything be done?
This operator is desperate to flood. She has a mature pool that has produced without pressure support and has recovered 85% of the primary reserves. It is near the end of its life.
New operators are popping up all over the place in Alberta. This one is starting a water flood in a newly acquired oil pool. But when she applied to the regulator, she showed more than she needed. Her net pay map shows a drilling opportunity on the offsetting land.
You can see her net pay maps and the offset opportunity in her application to the regulator by button below.

Tis the season to be acquiring
Oil prices are on their way up. Many companies have made their acquisitions and are ready to move forward.
Several new operators have told me proudly that they are water flood companies. They will take their newly acquired treasures and double the reserves by injecting water.
How much disclosure is too much? Corner shots?
But here's a question. How much do you need to show the regulator (and the public) when applying to exploit your property?
Many operators are submitting detailed geological interpretations when they apply for a flood. That's a mistake. It's an easy one to make if you just read the checklists.
Their error can be your intelligence. By reviewing their mapping, you can get a leg up on the exploration in the area.

Taking advantage of corner shots
One company I know drills only corner shots. They look for a corner shot to drill into someone else's pool.
Then, when they're successful, they wade into negotiations to sell their success to the major operator. Sometimes they even block further development or flooding in the entire pool until they get what they want.
You may not be that aggressive. You might be more mild mannered. And you likely have better interpretations that anyone else.
But still, seeing others' geological interpretations in an area can get you quickly up to speed.
Corner shots in your own area
What if you could find corner shots in your own backyard?
Your offsets and nearby competitors might have a piece of information that you're missing -- a seismic line or the results of a confidential well.
From that intelligence, they might have made a map and then mistakenly made it available through an application.
What a coup if you could see it!
Use AppIntel to win at land sales
You can even use maps in applications to win at land sales
One of our subscribers did just that. He used AppIntel to win at a land sale.
He saw a land posting near his operation. Out of curiousity, he used AppIntel to scout the activity in the area using the Proximity search feature. He also set an area alert.
A few days later, AppIntel notified him by email of a new application in the land sale area. From the application, he saw the operator's plans for the land and even some mapping.
Armed with this intelligence, he made a winning bid at the land sale.
What exploration opportunities could you find using AppIntel?
